The Scientific Mind: Physical Sciences
Dr Fouzia Haneef Khan is at KSBL. She is also a Lecturer within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. She has a vast teaching and research experience spanning over 10 years and contributes to teaching and learning activities by taking an active role in promoting up-to-date and innovative pedagogy and practice.
At Imperial College London, she is mainly responsible for coordinating, teaching, and organizing the M.Sc. Genes, Drugs and Stem Cells – Novel Therapies Program of the Faculty of Medicine since 2019. As a lead for the Coordinated Transformation Group, she plays a key role in the transformation of the M.Sc. program to blend remote delivery. She is a project supervisor and a module leader for the Evidence, Information and Communication module and the Research project module in her program. She also teaches ad-hoc to the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelore of Surgery (MBBS) students and is a personal and academic tutor for undergraduates and postgraduates within the Faculty.
Dr. Khan completed her Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology from University College London (UCL), UK under the supervision of Professor Mike Simmonds. Her Ph.D. research investigated the “Influence of membrane cholesterol on Neurosteroid modulation of Benzodiazepine/ GABAA receptor.” She also graduated with 1st class honors in BSc UCL, UK. During her undergraduate degree, she spent a year working in the Development Pharmacology department as a Research Associate within Glaxo Smith Kline.
Awards & Achievements
Fouzia is a recipient of several awards and prizes. She has presented her research as talks and posters at various conferences on both STEM and Education topics. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) which is an indicator of the professional achievement for higher education practitioners against the UK Professional Standard Framework. She has recently achieved a Post Graduate Diploma in ULT (University Learning and Teaching) and currently pursuing MEd and working towards a Senior Fellowship from Imperial College London.
PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATIONS
Prior to joining Imperial College in 2019, Fouzia taught on the MSc Drug Discovery and the MPharm programmes. She is currently a Pharmacy OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) Assessor for the Research Department of Practice and Policy within UCL.
Fouzia serves on the Education Committee of the British Pharmacological Society’s (BPS) and develops resources and supports teaching initiatives to improve education, teaching, training, and continuing professional development for pharmacologists across the UK. She is also the member of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee at Imperial College London, where she contributes to the Athena SWAN framework to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research.
Fouzia is passionate about technology-led pedagogy, specifically developing innovative teaching and blended learning practice. Fouzia has been a leading player in the use of e-pedagogy within her programme and is keen to create opportunities for sharing good practice in teaching and learning across universities within UK and other countries.
