KSBL Leadership

Mubashar Hameed
Mubashar Hameed was appointed by the board of Karachi School of Business and Leadership as the Rector on 23 April 2020. In addition to his role as Rector KSBL, Mr. Hameed serves as CEO of Karachi Education Initiative ("KEI").

Mr. Hameed, a result-driven senior executive carries 32 years of experience, primarily in the USA, working for Fortune 1000 companies where he accomplished aligning global organizations with a strategic vision to realize growth and profitability objectives. He holds strong track record of driving fast-paced enterprise transformation initiatives, building digital capabilities, and bringing technology into the mainstream of a company's business model.

Prior to joining KSBL, Mr. Hameed served as the Chief Digital Officer at Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency where he led a complete business transformation including restructuring of the agency into a digital business. He provided strategic and operational leadership for customer experience, product development, customer service and information technology organizations.

Mr. Hameed began his career at GE where he progressed his career to the position of Chief Information Officer ("CIO") across several divisions of General Electric including GE's Security and Aero Energy in Texas, GE Capital in Connecticut and GE's Aviation Division in Ohio. His leading role in managing these high growth businesses involved turnaround of breakthrough projects and leading Six Sigma, Digitization, E-Commerce and simplification initiatives.

As CIO at Moneygram International, a global money transfer company, Mr. Hameed led the transformation of the recently-acquired and long-neglected business into an organization delivering innovative products while lowering operating costs. At Fiserv, a Fortune 500 financial services company, Mr. Hameed led the initiatives that significantly increased the organizational delivery capabilities while simplifying a complex systems environment.

As an entrepreneur, he is the Founder & CEO of Caliber Vantage, the firm that offers career development and solutions to students, universities and organizations, to upgrade the workforce of the future.

Mr. Hameed holds MBA and BS in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University, where he was inducted into the Eta Kappa Nu engineering honorary. He is a graduate of GE's Management Development Program and is Six Sigma certified.

Dr. Farooq-e-Azam Cheema
Dr. Farooq e Azam Cheema has a distinguished career in improving Pakistan's Education landscape with major contributions as member of the National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC) and an accreditation mentor of renowned universities across Pakistan. He is the permanent member of National Curriculum Review Committee of Business Administration (HEC). He is also a member of coveted bodies like Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD), UK and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, UK.

He completed his MSc. in Human Resource Management & Development from the University of Manchester, UK. His PhD. is in Management, from the University of Karachi.

Besides having diversified experience in academia with top tier higher education institutions of the country, he also has a vast experience of corporate HRM & D consultancy with special expertise in building the HR systems for renowned organizations and dealing with matters on Industrial Relations & Labour Laws. Dr. Cheema's area of expertise is Human Resource Development. He has been associated with reputable institutions like Employer Federation of Pakistan, Institute of Bankers Pakistan, and ICAP for last many years, and has conducted multiple workshops on managerial skills, Industrial Relations and Labour Laws there.

Prior to joining KSBL, Dr. Cheema served as the Dean Management and Social Sciences at Bahria University, Islamabad.

Dr. Jawaid A. Ghani
Dr Jawaid Ghani holds degrees in Computer Science and Management from MIT and Wharton School (U. Penn). He was a Professor at LUMS (1992-2012) where he taught in the areas of Strategy and Marketing, served as Dean of the Suleman Dawood School of Business, and held the Export Development Fund Chair in Export Marketing. Prior to joining LUMS, Dr Ghani held faculty positions at the Sloan School of Management, MIT, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and Western Michigan University.

He was a founding Director of Gallup Research Institute (Pakistan). He served as the founding Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and as Provincial Secretary Information Technology Department in Punjab.

He has served as a Board member of several organizations including Haleeb Foods Ltd., International Islamic University, Foundation University, Punjab Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), and Technical Up-Gradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC), and as a member of numerous federal and provincial task forces.

He has published extensively in several areas including the psychology of human-computer interaction, economic tariff policy, and retail. His current research interests lie in the area of marketing research and corporate strategy.

Dr. Nadeem Javaid
Dr. Nadeem Javaid holds a PhD in Economics and MS in Innovation and Industrial Dynamics from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France. Dr. Javaid has over 20 years of experience in academia, financial industry and policymaking. From August 2014 to October 2018, he has the privilege to be the Chief Economist of Government of Pakistan with the responsibility to advise the highest decision making forums such as Central Development Working Party (CDWP), Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC), National Economic Council (NEC) and Federal Cabinet. In his capacity as a Chief Economist, he supervised the preparation of the 11th and 12th National Five Year Plans besides finalizing the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Long term Plan (2016-30). The rigorous CPEC negotiations between China and Pakistan spanned over two-year period. The result is an approved document delineating the aspirational goals of both nations and a framework of cooperation worth $60 Billion of Projects under Chinese flagship Belt and Road Initiative.

Also, Dr. Javaid served as an ex-officio Member of Economic Policy & Planning at the Planning Commission chaired by Prime Minister of Pakistan. He also served as Member Policy Board of Accountant General of Pakistan Revenue, Member National Accounts Committee and Member BoG CPEC Center of Excellence at PIDE University, Islamabad. In addition, he contributed as a member of the Working Group on Regulatory Reforms at the Economic Reforms Unit, Ministry of Finance.

Dr. Javaid also served as an Advisor to the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform. His advisory responsibilities included undertaking reviews, analyze policies and institutional structures, identifying challenges and recommend reforms for national development. In this capacity, Dr. Javaid has the honor of preparing the Vision 2025 of Pakistan as a lead author. Besides, the task involved developing a consensus among different stakeholders including line ministries and provincial governments, and devising an implementation and communication strategy. Moreover, he has central banking experience at the State Bank of Pakistan where he conducted compliance and risk-based on-site inspections of banks and non-banking financial institutions of the country.

Further, Dr. Javaid has taught to postgraduates and executives at Suleman Dawood School for Business, Lahore University of Management Sciences and SKEMA Business School, France, where he taught Economic Policy, Innovation Strategy, Organization and Dynamics of Financial System, Financial Markets and Issues in Corporate Finance to its executive and postgraduate programs. Dr. Javaid has also served as an Associate Dean at Karachi School of Business and Leadership. He regularly contributes as a resource person in various capacity building trainings of senior Government officials at the National Institute of Management, National School of Public Policy, National Defense University and Air War College.

During his PhD, he remained associated with the Group of Research on Law, Economics and Management at National Center for Scientific Research (GREDEG-CNRS), Sophia Antipolis, France. His PhD dissertation highlights the role of the financial sector in driving successful technological change in an economic system.

Research & Teaching Interests
Dr. Javaid firmly believes that technology is an imperative determinant of economic growth; whereas technological change takes place in the framework of a complex process of institutional embeddedness, in which policies and institutions co-evolve with the macroeconomic environments. Therefore, he contends that differences among financial institutions and financial sector policies within the framework of "national system of innovation" have strong potential to explain the nature and causes of the differences of the wealth of nations. Following this context his research and teaching interests revolve around Financial System, Macroeconomics, Business Government Relations, Innovation & Technological Change, Industrial Organization and Corporate Strategy.

Dr. Javaid has presented his research work at several International peer reviewed conferences including 13th Schumpeter Society Conference (Aalborg, Denmark), 8th GLOBELICS Conference (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), 6th GLOBELICS Conference (Mexico City), 3rd Thematic Meeting of the French Economic Association (Sophia Antipolis, France) and 5th GLOBELICS Academy on Innovation and Development (Tempere, Finland).

Dr. Tariq Basheer
Dr. Tariq Basheer is Professor of Accounting and Finance at KSBL. He holds a PhD from Washington University, MSc from London School of Economics (LSE) and MBA from Anderson Management School.

He has a long and distinguished record of academic scholarship, educational leadership and commercial experience. He has taught at a number of leading international universities. He has also been serving as a visiting faculty member at many European institutions as a guest speaker and lecturer. Moreover Dr Basheer has designed impactful academic curriculums and training programs.

Besides his diverse contribution in improvement of academia, he has also set up the Finance Research Centre in Corporate Performance. To elevate the return on investment (ROI) and improve human performance in organizations, he has also provided various influential solutions in the areas of accounting and management, respectively.

Dr Basheer is also renowned for his wide consultation in globally existing commerce and non-profit organizations, including Blockbuster, Woolworths, Austin Reed and Ford. Furthermore he also played a vital role in boosting a number of businesses in Eastern Europe as they transitioned from a controlled to a free market economy.

Dr Basheer is a part of Mc Graw Hill institute as an author and a book reviewer. He holds a deep commitment to developing graduates with world-class leadership and management skills. His current interests lie in the application of behavioural science to business and public policy decision-making as well as Chinese philosophy and business management.

Dr Basheer encourages conventional thinking in the 21st century. He is of the opinion that in today's era it is essential for leaders to be creative and innovative and therefore encourages students to engage in rigorous debates and dialogues and exercise judgements with conventional approach in challenging situations.

Dr. Athar Siddiqui
Dr. Muhammad Athar Siddiqui is an Associate Professor in the Management area at the KSBL. Prior to joining KSBL, Dr. Siddiqui served as a faculty for three years at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Dr. Siddiqui graduated with a PhD in Human Resource Management from University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK) in 2010. He also has a MS and MBA from SZABIST (Karachi) with distinctions and university gold medals.

Dr. Siddiqui has over 10 years of international teaching experience at universities in Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. He has also been involved in consulting and executive developments programs with organizations such as Beaconhouse School System, Fatima Fertilizers, K-Electric, Novartis, Pakistan Naval Shipping Corporation, PARCO, Sharif Group, Sindh Education Foundation and United Energy Pakistan. He is an expert executive facilitator in the areas of business communication, HR interventions, leadership and team building. Dr. Siddiqui is known for his multi-pedagogical and experiential approaches for student engagement.

In terms of research, Dr. Siddiqui has published in the area of Critical Human Resource Development and Informational and Functional Export Barriers in the Emerging Markets. Dr. Siddiqui's research has been presented at the British Academy of Management, Global Academic Network and University Forum of HRD Europe conferences. His research interests focus on workplace learning, management education, and critical perspectives in employment relationships.

Dr. Siddiqui cares for social change and enjoys interacting with youngsters. A bit of deliberate opposition to arguments and friendly banter keeps him intellectually charged.

Dr. Shazib E. Shaikh
Dr. Shazib Shaikh is an Associate Professor of Decision Sciences at KSBL. Previously, during nine years of executive education experience at LUMS, he has directed and taught various executive courses, e.g. Data-Savvy Decision-Making (Coca Cola), ERP Systems, Retail Management, IT-based Change Management (Telenor and Tameer Microfinance joint venture: easypaisa), Executive Development (UFone), Agri-business Management (with Nestle participants). He has worked on consultancy projects for Telenor, Mantaq Systems (implementation partners for MS Dynamics for Pakistani retailers such as Stylo Shoes), Coca Cola BPL, Naseeb Networks and AdSells. More recently, he documented the roll-out and implementation of big data analytics in Punjab IT Board’s dengue program and demonstrated dashboard analytics for more efficient geo-analytical disease prevention audits.

Dr. Shazib delivered the first case-method based MBA business intelligence, spreadsheet modelling and digital marketing courses at LUMS. Similarly, he delivered the first business analytics and decision behavior courses for the LUMS undergraduate program in Management Sciences. At ITU, his HoD role made him the effective Acting Dean of the fledgling business school, seeing it through the transition to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Shazib delivered the first case-method based MBA business intelligence, spreadsheet modelling and digital marketing courses at LUMS. Similarly, he delivered the first business analytics and decision behavior courses for the LUMS undergraduate program in Management Sciences. At ITU, his HoD role made him the effective Acting Dean of the fledgling business school, seeing it through the transition to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Shazib’s PhD in the UK was initially sponsored by B2BNet who acquired the rights to the technology he developed during his Masters for scalable and flexible web application architecture. He remained a software developer for them until his study got funded by a prestigious UK Overseas Research Scholarship.

Dr. Waheed Umrani
Dr. Umrani has a vast teaching experience along with various teaching cases and published articles in renowned journals to his credit. He was also heading Center Of Case Research at IBA Sukkur, where he was previously working as Associate Professor. He did his PhD from University Utara Malaysia in OB & HR. Dr. Umrani has successfully supervised PhD and Masters students, won Research Grants at National and International Level and has successfully conducted consultancy for various organizations.

Dr. Umrani has published in top-notch journals such Personnel Review, Journal of Knowledge Management, Academy of Management Proceedings, Leadership & Organization Development Journal, European Journal of Innovation Management, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, Journal of Environmental Management, British Food Journal, SageOpen, and Global Business Review to name a few. Some of his work is under-review with high quality journals such as International Journal of HRM, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Strategic Management Journal. As a trainer Dr. Umrani has conducted professional trainings for corporate and academicians in Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, and all around Pakistan. Where he has had the opportunity to train, interact and learn from people of 150 different countries. His training portfolio falls in three major areas that include Leadership & Management Development, Case Writing and Case.

Dr. Shoaib ul Haq
Dr. Shoaib is an Associate Professor at KSBL and has introduced a new course on 'digital economy' which include business modules on collaborative consumption, cryptoventures and artificial intelligence. Before joining KSBL, he served as a faculty member at Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea for 2 years. He has extensive teaching, training as well as corporate work experience both in Pakistan and abroad. He completed his PhD in Organizational Behavior from Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan in 2015. His research interests center on exploring impacts of rapid technological changes on global businesses, the bi-directional interaction between organizations and society and the role of religion/spirituality in business. He published a paper in the prestigious journal 'Organization', which was later declared as the 'best paper in business category' by HEC. He is also an Associate Editor at 'Business Ethics: A European Review' which is a leading journal in its area, published by Wiley. He did his MBA from Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Germany while his bachelors degree is in Electrical Engineering from National University of Science & Technology.

Dr. Muhammad Talha Salam
Dr. Talha is a full-time faculty member at KSBL with over 15 years of experience in academia, consulting and practice of marketing and management. Prior to joining KSBL, he was teaching at the FAST School of Management, Lahore. He completed his PhD in Management with a concentration on consumer research from Universiti Brunei Darussalam - a high-ranked, research-intensive university in the ASEAN region. Earlier, he did his MBA from IBA Karachi and BS Engineering from NUST. He has served in different marketing, sales, and business development roles in technology, real estate and construction sectors. He has provided advisory and consulting to different organizations in the areas of marketing, business development and recruiting. Dr. Talha has conducted various training sessions and workshops on topics related to marketing, research, and career development. In addition to his academic qualifications, he is also a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW).

He is an active researcher with research interests in the fields of consumer research, marketing, and case study publishing. His research has been published in International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Islamic Marketing and Emerald Emerging Markets case collection. Besides journal articles, he has authored several conference papers, book chapters, and professional articles.
